Privacy policy
simpleranking.app has no accounts and no sign-up forms: it never asks for your real name, email or any other personal data (if you pay an optional fee, Stripe asks for your card and email on its own page; if you write your own name in the list, see below). To work, it needs to recognize your browser and remember what happens in the list. This is what is stored and why.
Data controller
Fernando Marcet Manrique (NIF 45551484F), Calle Colegio, 23, 35500, Arrecife, Las Palmas. Contact: info@simpleranking.app.
What is stored
- A random identifier, in the
srcookie (see the cookie policy). It is not linked to your name or to any account. - Your entry in the list: the name the list assigns you (generated, not yours) or, if you write one, your own name in the list (see below), the country inferred from your browser's language, your browser's language and time zone offset, your points, the day you arrived, the days you have come back, your streaks and the list's counters (time spent idle, fumbles, how it treats you).
- What the list remembers: your habits on the page (the times you visit, what you tap, how you scroll, the gestures your device reports and its screen size), your best and worst positions, your position each day (the last 120 days), your longest absence, the people in the list you tap, name changes, the last 40 things the list has said to you, what it has asked of you and whether you did it, and what you have found (with the date).
- When you write to the list in the box where it speaks: see below.
Your IP address is not stored with any of this. It is only used in memory to block mass requests: for a few seconds, or up to 24 hours for failed receipt attempts (see below). Like any website, the server may keep technical access logs (IP address, date and page requested) for a limited time, for security purposes only.
Visits to the website are counted with an in-house system that uses no cookies and does not store your IP address. It records the page, the referring website, the type of device and browser, the language and the time spent on the page. The anonymous identifier used to count unique visitors changes every day. Individual visit records are deleted after 400 days.
To improve the game we also keep our own usage statistics, linked to your entry in the list (the same srcookie, no new cookies): what you do on the page and when (where you tap or click and whether anything responded, how far and how fast you scroll, which windows you open and close, when you leave), your position, the points you win or lose, which kind of reply the voice gave you and whether you use a phone or a computer. What you write is not stored here. They are only used to see where the game is hard to understand, are not shared with anyone and are deleted after 90 days.
What other people see
Your row in the list: the assigned name (or the one you write), the flag of your country, any extras you choose (symbol, ink, nickname or frame), your points, the figures in the columns and an arrow showing how far you have moved up or down since your last visit. Also, anyone who opens your file from your row sees a reference copy: your grade, how many achievements you have and on which shelves, six of them, your latest three (with how many days ago), how many godchildren you have and the phrase you choose as your statement. They never see your real file number, your stub, what the list remembers about you or what you write to it. You can restrict your file from your folder: then only what your row already shows can be seen. Of the files you open, the list only notes how many, and which achievements you have seen. Anyone can add you to their contacts from your file: their record stores your public identifier (not your cookie's) to find you on the list, and the list tells them if you overtake them or if you earned an achievement that day (without saying which; not if your file is restricted). You are not told who follows you.
Your own name in the list
You can replace the assigned name with one you write yourself (the number stays). Everyone sees it in your row, and it appears in the images you share. Before it is accepted, an automatic filter on our server checks it and only that text is sent to OpenAI's moderation service, which says whether it is offensive; neither your cookie nor your IP address is sent, and OpenAI does not use it to train its models. The list keeps the name in use, when and how you got it (by grade or by paying the fee), the attempts of the day, how many were rejected and, if one is withdrawn, the last withdrawn name. The owner may review it and return you to a random name. Please do not write your full real name or any personal data: it is public.
Talking to other people on the list
You can call other people on the list and talk to them using slips built from fixed pieces (set phrases, flags, symbols and figures from the list itself); nothing can be typed freely. Most of the time, the reply is scripted. Conversations are not kept: the list only notes who you have already talked to (a short fingerprint of the name and flag), a few tallies and the pieces you have learned. If someone does not answer, you can leave them one slip: it is kept, with your assigned name and flag, until it reaches them on their next visit, and then in their message box (the last 10, for 30 days at most), so they can read it again and call you back. While the page is open and visible, the server knows (in memory only, never stored) that you are connected, so that someone else's call can reach you; a call in progress exists only in that memory and is discarded when it ends.
Writing to the list
Sometimes you can write to the list. To reply, the website sends what you write to OpenAI and, if OpenAI fails, to Anthropic, together with what the list needs to reply (how it treats you, your position, the days you have come back and what it remembers of earlier conversations). Neither your cookie nor your IP address is sent. Both companies process it as data processors on behalf of the owner, in the United States, under the safeguards of the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses; under their terms for business customers, they do not use it to train their models and retain it only for a limited time, for security purposes.
What you write is not stored verbatim: the conversation stays in the server's memory for a few minutes and then disappears. The list only keeps a short note of what it was about (at most eight words, without names or figures) for 30 days, and a count of how many times you have written. Please do not write personal data.
Links you share
When you forward something from the list, the link includes your public identifier: the one that already identifies your row in the list, never your cookie. If someone arrives through it for the first time, a short-lived technical cookie (sr-de) records whose link it was until their first visit is registered; the list then stores the fact that they came through you, so that it can be counted. That record is deleted when either of the two entries is deleted.
Your receipt
Your file has a receipt: a random code of twelve characters, stored with your entry in the list, that lets you get your file back in another browser or on another device without an email address or a password. It is not your public identifier and does not appear in anything you share. Whoever has it can get into your file, so keep it to yourself. If you open your file somewhere else with it, both devices share the same entry. You can cancel it and get a new one at any time: the old one stops working and your other devices are signed out. The link for another device carries the code after the # sign, so it never reaches the server or the visit statistics, and the page removes it from the address bar as soon as it reads it. To stop anyone guessing codes, failed attempts are counted by IP address, in memory only, for at most 24 hours. If you present a receipt on a device whose entry was started that same day, that entry is deleted; if it is older, it is kept as it is, with its own receipt.
Payments
Fees, certificates and donations are always optional. Payments are processed by Stripe (Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd.), which collects your card details and email address on its own page, under its own privacy policy (stripe.com/privacy): simpleranking.app never sees or stores your card. What is stored here is what you paid for, the amount, the date, Stripe's payment reference and, for a certificate or certified copy, what the document states (the assigned name, country, file number, position, points and date and, in a copy, your achievements). Anyone with the link to a certificate or copy can see it; the link is only shared if you share it. Stripe keeps the payment records required by tax law; on this website, they are deleted along with your entry.
Advertising
The world population pages (never the list) show Google AdSense ads. Google may use cookies and similar technologies there to show and measure ads, personalized or not, only with the consent you give in its consent notice. More information in the cookie policy and in Google's policy.
Purpose and legal basis
This data is used only to make the list work for you: your position, what the voice says to you, what it remembers and what you find. It is not used for advertising, is not sold and is not shared with anyone other than the providers mentioned. Legal basis: the provision of the service you use (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), including anything you pay for; compliance with the legal obligations that come with payments (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR); and the legitimate interest in keeping the website working properly and free from abuse, and in improving the game with its own usage statistics (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Data processors
The hosting provider of the server where the website runs, OpenAI and Anthropic for replies to what you write, OpenAI to check the names you write, and Stripe for payments. There are no third-party analytics tools; the only advertising, on the population pages, is Google's.
Retention
Your entry in the list is kept for as long as you keep coming back. If two years go by without a visit, it is deleted automatically, together with everything the list remembers about you; you can also ask for it to be deleted earlier. The cookie expires two years after your first visit. The notes about conversations and the messages left for you (in your message box) are deleted after 30 days; the list only keeps the last 40 things it has said to you and the most recent memories of each kind. Usage statistics are deleted after 90 days.
Your rights
You can access, rectify or erase your data, object to or restrict its processing, and request data portability by writing to info@simpleranking.app. As there is no account, include your file number: it appears when you open the folder at the top of the list. If you delete your browser's cookies, the list will treat you as someone who has just arrived, unless you present your receipt. If you think your data has not been handled properly, you can lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority, the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD, aepd.es).
Minimum age
The website is intended for people aged 14 and over. If you are under 14, ask your parent or guardian for permission before using it, especially before writing to the list.
